Earlier today, Gary, our VP of Engineering, worked his awesome magic and restored the SPRTV webcam located on Bald Mountain, after an outage while we changed broadband internet service providers.

A few hours later, we are totally stoked that the live feed from Baldy is also back on our website!

To see it, navigate to “For Fun” in the menu at the top of any page. Then select “Live From Baldy” from the drop down menu that appears.

One caveat … Sorry, but because of the web technology we’re using with our webcam, the live view will very likely not display on your smartphone or tablet.

But enjoy the views on any PC or Mac!

We’ve just received word from Neil Best, KUNC station manager, that “the High Park wildfire west of Fort Collins has taken KUNC off the air. Don’t know if it is just the power lines that are down or if the antenna and/or transmission line has been damaged. Fire started yesterday and is already over 8,000 acres.”

KUNC is broadcast on 88.1 and 88.7 in Summit County as part of the SPRTV’s family of FM stations; and has not been affected. If an outage affecting Summit County were to occur, Summit County residents and visitors can also stream KUNC on-line here.

FYI: An update one hour ago from a Ft. Collins Coloradan reporter stated “The High Park Fire NW of Fort Collins exploded from nothing to 10,000 acres in less than 24 hours. The county is clearing out the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland for evacuees. Mandatory evacuations range from Poudre Canyon to Masonville and east to Bellvue and Lory State Park. This could be the most devastating wildfire northern Colorado has ever seen.”

jazz89 KUVO 89.3FM President/CEO Alfredo Cruz is pleased to announce that KUVO’s Carlos Lando is being recognized for his significant contribution to jazz this Saturday at 3:30pm at the Five Points Jazz Festival. “This award is timely because as of April, Carlos has been at KUVO for 25 years! I’ve known Carlos for close to 20 of those years and he’s always been one of the most respected and influential jazz programmers in the country.” Cruz added, ”Lando is a big reason for me being at KUVO and I’m proud to be working with him on a daily basis. We’re lucky to have him here.”

Carlos first went on the air in Puerto Rico at the age of seventeen with the Armed Forces Caribbean Network. Lando was on the air in New York at WOUR in 1970, and started “Jazz: Where It’s Been and Where It’s At” in 1977 at WZAR in Ponce, PR. By 1980, his career path brought Carlos to Colorado where he worked at KDKO, then KBCO. In April of 1987 Lando became Program Director at KUVO where his experience in Jazz, Latin Jazz, and blues has proven to be beneficial to KUVO and the Denver jazz scene.

“For me, it’s a sheer pleasure and honor to hopefully affect a change in our community,” Lando told Bret Saunders of the Denver Post. To read the article click here.

KUVO awards, recognitions, and productions under Lando’s tenure include ”Jazz Station of the Year-Major Market” from JazzWeek; the 4-part series CALIENTE: Latin Jazz with Eddie Palmieri, that aired on almost 300 radio stations across the country; Live at the Oasis CD: recordings from the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio; collaborations and content contributions for NPR’s Toast of the Nation, WWOZ and WNYC; broadcasts with Dazzle Jazz, Vail Jazz Festival, Telluride Jazz, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the Arvada Center, and more.

KUVO is delighted that Erica Brown and Bob Montgomery will also be receiving awards recognition for their significant and lasting contribution to jazz, blues and the music culture in our community!

Erica Brown

Erica Brown is a bona-fide blues woman; she has worked with some of the finest artists in the world, and has shared stages with such heavyweights as B.B. King, Al Green, Delbert McClinton, Tab Benoit, and others. As front woman for the award-winning Erica Brown Band, Erica has thrilled audiences all over the Rocky Mountain region with her band’s brand of soulful blues. Previous awards include: Westword Magazine’s “Best Blues Band,” the Denver Post’s “Best Underground Blues Band” and The Rocky Mountain News “Best of in the Blues Category.” There’s no doubt that Erica is “Denver’s Queen of the Blues.”

Bob Montgomery

An internationally recognized trumpeter and band leader who has been honored with many awards for his excellence in education including: “Teacher of the Year,” “Kansas Jazz Educator & Performer of the Year,” and “Colorado Jazz Educator of the Year.” Bob Montgomery is a native of Garden City, Kansas. In 1997 he was inducted into the city’s Hall of Fame. Mr. Montgomery was the President of the International Association of Jazz Education (IAJE) for both the Kansas and Colorado chapters. Montgomery has an international reputation for his outstanding trumpet playing, having played on stage with Nancy Wilson, Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett and many more.
